We Got What We Needed
All one has to do is look at the latest headlines to see that the current times we live in can be compared to the times that Charles Dickens spoke of in his novel The Tale of Two Cities. There are a few lines that state, “it was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope…”
The news events of abuse of children and neglect of seniors and the conditions of the economy where one part of society excels and another part declines, leaves some people overwhelmed with despair. Ours is a society split along political party lines, class and race lines where many feel there is no way to overcome. The reality is that during the time of the birth of Jesus Christ things were the same.
No matter what class, race, party or economic status one may be, there is a commonality that places everyone on an even playing field that is in the need of a Savior. It could not just be any kind of savior but a savior with the power to reconnect people back to God. No matter the status of any individual, there is a single need among all, which is to live a life filled with hope! Hope simply defined is a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen.
There is no other word or name that has the ability to bring hope during times of difficulty and discouragement like the name Jesus. The Hope that is in Jesus as savior is that we are reminded of the good news that God is still speaking to us in our condition and circumstances. He sent Jesus to remind us that we still have opportunity to live on purpose, despite any current events that we may have experienced. Jesus emphatically stated Himself in John 10:10b “I have come that they might have life and that they may have it more abundantly.”
There are many benefits of having a Savior like Jesus. There is the benefit of having eternal life which is consoling to anyone who has felt disconnected from God. There is the benefit of really knowing abundant joy, peace, love, health, prosperity, grace and favor.
Only Jesus as savior can deliver the kind of hope that one needs to live a life of victory. Despite the news of the day, the good news is that the Savior has come and in Him we live, move and have our being.
The world needed a savior. And in Jesus, we got just what we needed!
Scripture Of The Day: "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead." - 1 Peter 1:3 (NKJV)
