A Fresh Start

I love every season of the year. I absolutely love the fall days where it’s crisp in the mornings and pleasant in the afternoons. I often look forward to our first freeze of winter that will allow me to pull out my fun, winter boots. Fewer things are more pleasant than a perfect, spring day when the flowers are beginning to bloom. And although summer can get terribly hot in my part of the country, I still love the carefree days it brings with my family.

I guess you could say that I love the beginning of each season; I love a fresh start.

A new year offers that to us. People make resolutions each year saying they will be better at things and give up certain guilty pleasures. But after a few weeks, most of us are tempted to go back to our old ways and eventually fall into it hoping that maybe the next year, we’ll do better.

But why wait until a full year has gone? Why not start the very next day? The writer of Lamentations says, in chapter 3, verses 22-23, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

I love this truth! Yes, we will fail in our daily lives but we don’t have to live in failure! We can start fresh every single day regardless of what happened the day before. Because 1 John 1:9 assures us that “if we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

How awesome is that?

Even though you may fail, I promise He will not fail you! So the next time you fail, instead of walking in defeat for weeks, months or even years, don’t! Start new each morning by trusting in God and allowing Him “to work in you to will and to act according to His good purpose!”
