I Promise
One of the highest privileges that I have in this life is to be a father. Make no mistake, fathering is a challenge and offers its everyday surprises. But the challenges are outweighed by the joys of our children, fun that they invite daily, the smiles that reflect the pureness of their hearts, and the ambition that they innately possess to please those who matter most – their parents.
Although I have worked hard to mean what I say and say what I mean when promising things to my children, there have been times where I have had to explain why I could not fulfill my promise. In most, if not all cases, at least in my mind, there were reasonable explanations that absolutely prevented me from fulfilling my verbal obligation. But not in my children’s minds. Without a context or even needing one, they simply know that Daddy did not do what he promised. They even go as far as saying, “But Daddy, you promised…!” They are right. And as a Dad, it is the worst feeling when you cannot meet your obligation and duty. So to avoid this, I try not to make promises that I cannot keep. Plus, I go way overboard when I have a promise that I did not keep.
What is beautiful about serving God, there is absolutely nothing that prevents Him from keeping His promises. Absolutely nothing! He works backstage in our lives to present on stage fulfilled promises and realized petitions.
Over and over again, scripture confirms that God WILL answer our prayers.
"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." (Matthew 7:7) – Promise!
"And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive." (Matthew 21:22) – Promise!
"Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them." (Mark 11:24) – Promise!
"If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?" (Luke 11:13) – Promise!
"And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it." (John 14:13-14) – Promise!
"Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." (Hebrews 4:16) – Promise!
"And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him." (1 John 5:14-15) – Promise!
Scripture of the Day: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." - 1 John 1:9
